Best budgie food
The budgerigar parakeet is your companion and also your best friend, and you need to provide him/her with the best food. Vitamins are essential and a proper diet is what your companion needs. In the following we will reveal the best food for a happy budgerigar.
Budgies are generally known as grain-eating birds. This may mislead us because in nature, along with seeds budgies still eat leaves, fruit, bark, moss, nuts, and animal albumin. Birds that live in apartments are fed only with seed mixtures and pellets. This is not a diversified diet and a monotonous feeding is an inadequate feeding. Exclusive feeding with seeds can cause liver disease, weight problems, kidney disease, and sterility.
Besides a diet rich in seeds, you must provide your companion salad, vegetables, fruits, leaves, herbs, minerals, albumin, eggs, meat, and water.
Salad by content of vitamins and minerals it is really indicated. It is preferable that the lettuce be grown in open air, not raised in the greenhouse.
Vegetables: grated carrots, tomatoes, fennel, green parts of beetroot, chicory, cabbages and other varieties of raw vegetables are eaten with pleasure by parakeets.
Fruits: oranges, tangerines or grapefruits contain vitamin C. Research has shown that foods rich in vitamin C increase immune resistance. Also, give your parakeet pears, kiwi, bananas, apples, and cherries.
Leaves and branches: Bring parakeets whole green leafy branches from different trees – fruit trees, oak, beech, elm, willow, chestnut, maple and shock.
Herbs can be grown in the garden or in pots: parsley, basil or thyme.
Minerals - calcium stones, cuttlefish shells, and eggshell.
Albumin (insects) – Birds that were grown without animal albumin has suffered bone changes. During moulting albumin is recommended twice a week and three times during hatching. In a room, feeding with insects is really complicated.
Alternatively you can use the cottage cheese and yogurt. Milk protein has a high content of amino acids and it is easily digested. Cheese and yogurt can be given alone or it can be mixed with toasted bread.
Eggs - only boiled eggs.
Meat - Stuffings beef is extremely good for budgie parakeets. This sours very quickly and must be served in small portions and the debris removed after two hours. Also, provide him/her veal (or chicken/lamb) cooked meat.
Water - boiled water and tea are NOT recommended for budgies! Boiled water accelerates elimination of liquids in the body and can lead to death, especially for those suffering from kidney disease.
